Flooring Installation at Barford Youth & Community Centre
Mazon Flooring was thrilled to collaborate with Warwickshire-based building firm Crowngate Construction on the flooring for the new Barford Youth & Community Centre. This exciting project aimed to create a state-of-the-art facility designed to serve the local community for years to come.
Scope of Work
The project required a variety of flooring types to meet the needs of different areas within the centre. Each space presented unique requirements, and we delivered customised solutions:
- Commercial Kitchen and Toilets: Installed Gerflor Tarasafe anti-slip safety flooring in a cap and cove finish. This provides a seamless, hygienic, and easy-to-clean surface ideal for high-traffic and wet areas.
- Multi-Use Hallway and Corridor: Fitted Invictus Maximus Click LVT planks in French Oak (Desert colour) for a durable, stylish, and practical solution in this large, versatile space.
- Store Rooms and Offices: Laid patterned JHS Overlay Shadow carpet tiles, offering a professional appearance with a 10-year commercial warranty for easy maintenance.
- Entrance Area: Installed Rawson Dominator entrance matting tiles in Ash colour to deliver a durable, visually appealing solution that effectively traps dirt and debris while being easy to maintain.
- Preparation: Kelmore smoothing compounds and primers were used for areas that needed full preparation, such as the safety floors and carpet tiles.
Challenges and Solutions
This project came with unique challenges that required careful planning and execution:
- Construction Joints in the Sub-Floor Screed
- For the main hall, we opted for a click LVT floor to eliminate the need for unsightly expansion joint covers, ensuring a seamless and polished finish.
- In the commercial kitchen and WCs, we used Gradus QCJ50 expansion covers in grey to bridge the joints, accommodating sub-floor movement without compromising the floor’s durability.
- High Construction Moisture in the Screed
- We mechanically ground the screed surface to remove contaminants and create a suitable key.
- Applied Wakol PU280 surface damp-proof membrane to protect the floor coverings from moisture by regulating its passage. This ensured the longevity and integrity of the adhesives and flooring materials used.
The Finished Result
The completed flooring project is a testament to the power of effective collaboration between contractors and the construction team. The new Barford Youth & Community Centre now features practical, durable, and visually appealing flooring solutions that meet the needs of its diverse spaces and users.
