Commercial Cap and Cove Flooring for a New Community Centre
Mazon Flooring was proud to partner with Crowngate Construction, a Warwickshire-based building firm, to complete the flooring for the newly built Barford Youth & Community Centre. This modern facility was designed to serve the community with versatile spaces, including a commercial kitchen and toilets that required specialised flooring solutions.
Project Requirements
The flooring for the kitchen and toilet areas needed to meet stringent hygiene standards while being durable, slip-resistant, and easy to clean. To achieve this, we installed Gerflor Tarasafe anti-slip safety flooring with a cap and cove finish. This seamless flooring system ensures:
- Enhanced Hygiene: The cap and cove design eliminates joints where dirt and bacteria can accumulate, making cleaning effortless and ensuring compliance with health regulations.
- Safety: The anti-slip surface provides excellent grip, even in wet conditions, reducing the risk of accidents.
- Durability: Built to withstand heavy foot traffic and rigorous cleaning schedules, this flooring is perfect for high-demand environments like commercial kitchens and toilets.
Challenges and Solutions
The project presented two significant challenges that required expert solutions:
- Construction Joints in the Sub-Floor Screed
- To address sub-floor movement and prevent damage to the finished floor, we installed Gradus QCJ50 expansion joint covers in grey. These covers ensure the floor remains stable and secure while maintaining a professional appearance.
- High Levels of Moisture in the Screed
- Before laying the flooring, we mechanically ground the screed to remove contaminants and create a suitable surface.
- A Wakol PU280 surface damp-proof membrane was applied to protect the flooring and adhesives from construction moisture, ensuring a durable and long-lasting installation.
