Solid wood herringbone with tumbled edges

The client came to us having been recommended by a previous customer of Mazon Flooring.

The brief was to supply and fit a herringbone oak floor with an aged look, to suit the age and features of the house. After some time establishing the required look and ruling out some options, an unfinished tumbled edge oak parquet block was chosen. The process of tumbling wood floor blocks gives then a slightly rounded edge, removing the uniformity of the edge of each piece and giving the effect of an aged floor.

The sub-floor was mixture of timber and solid concrete, which required ply boarding in parts, and a paint on damp proof membrane and heavy duty smoothing compound over the solid floor area.

The herringbone blocks came in as raw unfinished oak, which required us to sand them after installation using 80, 100, and 120 sanding paper on the Bona Flexisander machine. We then finished the floor using two coats of hard-wearing matt oil.

The photos show the process and the look of the finished floor before, during and after the oiling process.

Mazon Flooring offer a full service for the supply and installation of herringbone parquet wood flooring. We can undertake full sub-floor preparation, including damp protection, ensuring the floor will last for years and years.
